What to do in Alykanas

The taxis in this village have been replaced by horse drawn cart, so give that a try firstly, it is very romantic and that's why a lot of people choose this resort as a honeymoon destination.  There isn't much to do in the small village but relax on the beach and enjoy the small but personal Tavernas.

The food here is exquisite and the dishes are all authentic Greek and many contain elements of freshly landed fish.  Try the Stifado and Mousakka if your looking for a real taste of Greece.  A very popular place is the Lemon Tree restaurant, a must to visit on your holidays in Zante.  You can spend the nights chatting to new found friends or the owners, enjoying a glass of local wine and picking on the many small dishes you can order in the Lemon Tree but one of our favourites has to be the swordfish, which comes grilled just the way you like it.

Watersports have been moved to this part of the village over Alykes this year so you can enjoy these during the day.  The watersports here consist of mainly pedaloes, banana boat rides and canoes for hire.

If you want to explore the island this resort is well placed, with Smugglers cove boat trips available to buy in resort for just over 15 euros, also fishing boat trips and turtle watching trips are readily available.  You have the opportunity of visiting the island of Marathonisi or even taking the local ferry to Kefalonia for the day.

The resort itself though is mainly for relaxing, and if your looking for a peaceful holiday with very little to do expect relax and enjoy the weather in Zante.  You will find the people that choose to holiday here are looking for the same things as you and you will come away from the resort with some great friends and of course holiday memories.

The coach transfer from Zante Airport to Alykanas only takes around an hour and 15 minutes, and is slightly faster if you hire a local taxi from the airport.  Hiring a taxi at the airport can add an additional cost to your holiday, but its usually much faster than relying on the coach transfers offered by tour operators.  Another way we usually recommend is to hire a car for picking up at the airport.

Alykanas - Travel Guide

Alykanas is near to the neighbouring resort of Alykes and with less than 1 km between the two it is a pleasant and easy flat walk from one resort to the other. It is situated 18km northwest of Zante.

Alykanas is surrounded by olive groves and lush green scenery. It is a quiet resort, with a friendly, relaxing atmosphere that becomes livelier in the peak season.  If you climb or walk the hills around this area you will get some absolutely stunning views and beautiful photographs of the area and bay of Alykes and Alykanas.

Alykanas is very close to Alykes which is a well known resort with a beautiful long sandy beach which attracts many visitors during the summer. If you choose either Alykanas or Alykes your in for a wonderful holiday with beautiful beaches and great areas for fishing and snorkelling.

The 16th century monastery of St John the Baptist is nearby. Navagio (ship wreck) and Skinari with its spa cave and another blue cave with spectacular sun reflections with changing colours are beautiful areas close by worth visiting.

If you walk along the beach of Alykanas you will come to Alykes village.  Pale soft sand stretches almost as far as the eye can see and you can hire a pedaloe or even windsurf if the winds are strong enough.
