What to do in Vassilikos
There is little nightlife in the resort of Vassilikos, but
if you choose to take a holiday here your opting for a quiet relaxing beach holiday
within a traditional Greek fishing resort. That's not to say that there aren't any
bars in this resort, on the contrary there are a few wonderful little Tavernas and
bars where the owners will make you feel right at home.
The first place you have
to visit is Logos bar where you will meet the rather eccentric owner Kostas who will
keep you entertained most of the night. Another popular bar with visitors to the
resort is Calypso bar, where the drinks run freely and the prices are quite cheap.
There
are plenty of tradition family run Tavernas in Vassilikos and we recommend you try
as many as possible, offering great Greek dishes and freshly caught fish dishes.
The restaurants on the seafront are by far the most popular due to the stunning
views where you can watch the sunset over the sea.
The food in the restaurants all
comes at very reasonable prices and food is some of the best you will find on the
island of Zante, our recommended dishes have to be homemade Mousakka and the belly
of pork.
The coach transfer from Zante airport takes about 90 minutes, but if you want to
reach your hotel faster its recommended hiring a taxi or even having a hire car ready
for you at the airport.
Vassilikos -
Vassilikos is about 90 minutes drive from the capital of Zante Town, and sits on
the slopes of the Skopos hills, with lovely beaches and one which has now become
the first nudist beach in Zante. Vassilikos is the perfect holiday destination to
get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This is a family and couple orientated
resort and still retains the charm and hospitable welcome of a Greek village.
A mountainous
area you are best to hire a car to make the best of this area and get to see some
stunning views. The region's best sands are found around Vassilikos, including Banana
and Porto Zorro beaches.
Vassilikos is a very Greek village. Still very traditional with working farms and
olive groves, keeping up its rural atmosphere and popular with those wanting to escape
the tourist side of Zante. The place is not remote and cut off though, it caters
for the tourist well, with mini markets and a few bars and Tavernas.
The beaches of Vassilikos are well worth a visit, with watersports centres on two of the best beaches and scuba diving available in the area.
Not content on sitting on a beach all day? Then take leisurely walks through the winding country roads and pine forests. Vassilikos is the perfect way to wind down and relax on holiday.
